A novel approach, an optical radio over fiber link with double polarization multiplexing is presented. In the two orthogonal polarizations of the optical beam the contents of information to be transmitted are different doubling the link capacity this way. For experimental verification a millimeter wave radio over fiber link with double polarization multiplexing has been developed. To ensure low cross polarization an incoherent approach is used. A high quality signal transmission is achieved by a proper procedure providing high polarization extinction ratio. In the experimental investigations different bit rates and fiber lengths are used. A signal with 12 Gbit/s bit rate is transmitted over a 25 km long link with about 1.10~(-8) bit error rate. That result is much better than the already published data measured on experimental links.

The design consideration of a double-channel variable polarization system is investigated in this Letter; and the important components in the system are introduced. In addition, the experimental results of several components and indexes of the system are presented: the polarization switching time of the double-channel variable polarization system is 3 μs; the peak and average power capability are 14 kW and 80 W, respectively; the polarization isolation is 20 dB; the ellipticity is 1 dB.

In this article, we have proposed and demonstrated a tunable, switchable dual-wavelength linear cavity fiber laser, which has a passive dual ring cavity structures (DRCs) and polarization-maintaining fiber Bragg grating (PM-FBG), and can be used for the operation of single-longitudinal mode(SLM), narrow-linewidth, and orthogonal single polarization. The passive DRCs, consisted of four 2 x 2 optical couplers (OCs), work as the narrow-band filter and mirror. The tunable and switchable wavelength of the fiber laser is realized by stretching PM-FBG and adjusting the polarization controller (PC). The optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) at the dual-wavelength operating state can be more than 45 dB in the tunable range. While the OSNR of fiber laser at the each-wavelength operating state can reach 50 dB with the maximum wavelength and power fluctuation of 0.01 nm and 1.2 dB, during the monitoring time of 40 min. In addition, the measured laser linewidths are 375 Hz and 420 Hz, respectively. Meanwhile, the states of polarization are orthogonal single polarization, and the degree of polarization (DOP) is close to 100 %.

This paper presents the design and realization of a double four-port Butler matrix to feed a four-column array antenna with two orthogonally polarized signals (to obtain polarization diversity). The main goals of this study are the reduction of the size and the losses of the network. In order to meet those requirements, a bi-layer structure, the suspended stripline, has been adopted to support the circuit. Moreover, the complete network has been integrated in a single unit. The double four-port Butler matrix has been etched on both sides of the suspended substrate to solve the problem of the cross between the lines. The broadside suspended 3-dB directional coupler has been chosen for the design of the 3-dB hybrid coupler. In order to change the side of the suspended substrate, contactless transitions have been used. The network is designed to work within the range of frequencies of the GSM-900-MHz standard: band 880 MHz-960 MHz, center frequency f/sub 0/=920 MHz. Measured losses for a 4/spl times/4 Butler matrix are 0.3 dB.

The space of probability densities is an infinite-dimensional Riemannian manifold, with Riemannian metrics in two flavors: Wasserstein and Fisher--Rao. The former is pivotal in optimal mass transport (OMT), whereas the latter occurs in information geometry---the differential geometric approach to statistics. The Riemannian structures restrict to the submanifold of multivariate Gaussian distributions, where they induce Riemannian metrics on the space of covariance matrices.
